Stolen vehicle found submerged at Schoonover Lake

City Park Ranger locates stolen vehicle in the water at Schoonover Lake.

The Lima Police Department, Lima Fire Department, and the Allen County Sheriff's Office, responded to Schoonover Lake early this morning after a vehicle was found in the lake.

At Approximately 0736 hours on Saturday, December 21, 2013, A City of Lima Park Ranger was on routine patrol.  She observed the back of a utility trailer sticking up out of the lake near the bank on the south side of Schoonover Lake.  Closer investigation revealed a grey GMC Sierra pickup attached to the trailer, almost completely submerged.  Lima Police Department Officers responded along with the Lima Fire Department.  A LFD rescue swimmer entered the water and performed an initial check of the interior of the vehicle.  No persons were located either in or around the vehicle.  The LPD / ACSO dive team arrived and performed a thorough search of the interior of the vehicle and the area around it.  After ensuring that there were no occupants, the operation focused on the recovery of the truck and trailer.  Big Daddy's Towing responded to the scene and removed the truck and trailer from the lake.  After getting the truck on the bank,  Officers located a large rock on the accelerator indicating the truck had purposely been dumped in the lake with no occupants.

The truck was reported stolen through the Allen County Sheriff's Office sometime during the overnight hours. The ACSO is investigating the theft of the truck and trailer.
